The government's draft budget for 2025 was presented to Parliament today. The government continues to prioritize efforts to decommission the historic Norwegian nuclear facilities.
-NND is very satisfied with the outcome of the state budget for 2025. It shows that the government prioritises the important work NND carries out to safeguard society against the risks that the legacy of Norway's nuclear research programme may entail,” says NND's Director General Pål Mikkelsen.
Since the establishment of the agency in 2018, NNDs has systematically worked to prepare its own organisation with the aim of taking over the Department of Energy Engineering (IFE)'s closed reactor plants in Halden and at Kjeller in Lillestrøm, and the waste and landfill plant in Aurskog-Høland.
NND has applied to the Directorate of Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety for a concession to own and operate the facilities. A phased takeover is planned where the plant in Halden will be transferred to NND on 1 January 2025. This assumes that the licence application is granted.
It is expected that the current organization will grow to 100 year works in 2026.
These are the key figures from this year's budget proposal:

Post 21: £482.6m
